The City of Moab, Utah
Moab, Utah, was certified an International Dark Sky Community in 2024 and sits on the Colorado Plateau near Arches and Canyonlands. An outdoor lighting ordinance passed in 2019 and updated in 2023 covers new and existing buildings, and volunteers measure sky darkness quarterly. The nonprofit Moab Dark Skies helps residents replace non-compliant fixtures.
