Town of Castle Valley, Utah
The Town of Castle Valley, Utah, a residential and agricultural community near Moab, became an International Dark Sky Community in 2024. Its first outdoor lighting ordinance dates to 1991 and requires fully shielded fixtures, and it was updated in 2022 to follow DarkSky standards. The valley has no commercial zoning, so stock up in Moab, about 9 miles away, and look for the Milky Way above the red rock mesas.
