Idaho has no statewide outdoor lighting or light pollution statute; the only Idaho entry in the DarkSky policy database is a rule on the location of roadside displays. Local codes carry the load. Ketchum was designated a Dark Sky Community in 2017 after updating the lighting ordinance it first enacted in 1999.
Municipal codes
- Ketchum, ID (opens in new tab): Ketchum enacted its first comprehensive outdoor lighting ordinance in 1999, updated the code to meet DarkSky Community standards, and was designated an International Dark Sky Community in 2017. It also helped win the first International Dark Sky Reserve in the US, in neighboring central Idaho.
