Discovery marks the first detection of variable water clouds outside of the solar system

via [Phys.org (Space News section)](https://phys.org/news/2026-10-discovery-variable-clouds-solar.html)

Astronomers have detected variable water clouds on a Jupiter-sized world outside of the solar system for the first time. This discovery is significant for sky-watchers because it reveals that complex and dynamic atmospheric conditions exist elsewhere in the universe, making the possibility of life beyond our solar system more intriguing. The finding was made possible by the James Webb Space Telescope, which collected a spectrum of light from the brown dwarf WISE 0855 over an 11-hour period. Sky-watchers can look forward to further research on this fascinating object, which is relatively close to Earth at just 7.5 light-years away.
