SpaceX is calling for better coordination in orbit after experiencing near-misses with its Starlink satellites. This development is important for sky-watchers because improved data-sharing among satellite operators could help reduce the risk of collisions and minimize the impact of megaconstellations on astronomical observations. As the number of satellites in orbit continues to grow, coordination will be key to ensuring that the night sky remains accessible for stargazing and astronomy. Satellite operators and sky-watchers alike can look forward to improved safety and visibility in the night sky if data-sharing efforts are successful.
