Rhode Island's Outdoor Lighting Control chapter (R.I. Gen. Laws 42-136, added 2002) applies to new or replacement outdoor lights installed by or for state agencies. Units over 3,200 lumens may send no more than 2% of output into the 90 to 180 degree zone above horizontal. Roadway lighting must use markers and signs where they work, except at intersections. Private and municipal lighting are not covered.
