Massachusetts has no enacted statewide outdoor lighting law. The Senate passed the Dark Skies bill (S.3145, reprinted as S.3162) 39 to 0 on July 1, 2026. It would require new streetlights and parking lot fixtures paid for with state or municipal money to be fully shielded and capped at 3,000 kelvin, with exemptions for emergency, ornamental and safety lighting. In August 2026 the House had not agreed on a final text.
